Overview of American Pride and Shame

No, I am not proud of our country… We've had some good moments, but we've also had a whole lot of bad, and I certainly don't agree with the direction we are heading.

Cultural and Geographical Diversity

There are over 300 million of us spread across a vast continent. Some of us live in cities, some in the country, some in the suburbs, some in warm places, and some in cold. We have many different cultural backgrounds and religions. Certain beliefs are more prevalent in some parts of the country than others. In short, we are not a monolith, so there is no simple yes or no answer to this question. Some are very proud and believe the US is the greatest country on Earth, some consider the history to be largely shameful and do not feel prideful, and others don’t think about it all that much and are just living their lives.

Pride in a Home

I know I am. Unfortunately, there aren’t many on here that seem to be. I know I am proud, but it is a general sense of pride this is my home and there's no place like it. Like anything, it has its flaws. But you don’t throw out the baby with the bath water. Sadly, Americans aren't allowed to be proud of our country on here. It's like a cardinal sin. No other nationality is bound by that but us apparently. Soon enough, someone will come along with a host of reasons why they think the US sucks. They never seem to comprehend that we may have completely different priorities. I guess they can't help themselves. It's all rather pathetic.

Perspectives on American Pride and Shame

While many consider the US to be the greatest country in the world despite its flaws, sure, not as proud as some more traditional cultures like Turkey or Israel. However, very, very few people would leave the US permanently for another country, especially a place other than Canada, which is basically America North.

Historical Perspectives

When I was a kid, things were different. The Republican party was not taken over by the Evangelical Right and became a parody of themselves. Now, Republicans seem to genuinely believe that all liberals are satanically possessed or outright worshippers. This shift has significantly affected the political landscape and has polarized the nation.
