The RSS and the Caste System: Understanding Core Ideals and Future Vision

From my observations of the RSS-turned BJP politicians, it is evident that they wish for the caste system to continue, yet without discrimination. However, this is an ideal that can never be realized. The caste system must be abolished to eliminate discrimination and create a more unified and equitable society.

Understanding the RSS Framework

One must understand the fundamental perspective of the RSS before addressing such complex questions. The RSS does not subscribe to any revealed book; instead, its unyielding purpose is the Hindu national revival. This means the RSS does not follow Manusmriti, the Mahabharata, or the Vedas as absolute and unchangeable truths.

Ancient and Venerated Legacies

Manusmriti, the Mahabharata, and the Vedas are ancient and venerated legacies of Hindu society. The RSS believes that these texts can either help or hinder Hindu society in the future. Only aspects that promote strength and resilience will be promoted, while those that lead to degeneration will be discarded.

Swami Vivekananda's Influence

The RSS closely follows Swami Vivekananda, who emphasized that strength is life and weakness is death. This means that individuals should base their actions on their physical strength and intellectual genius rather than blind faith in the undeciphered texts. The core ideas in Manusmriti are subject to scholarly debate, and the RSS does not rely on these texts as inviolate and revealed truths.

Manusmriti and Its Context

Manusmriti contains both inspirational and challenging content. While it can be a valuable source of wisdom, certain popular versions of Manusmriti contain plain madness. The history of Hindu society is rich and diverse, not limited to a single dharmashastra or text. Anyone seeking to understand Hindu social history must be aware that a comprehensive knowledge of these texts is essential.

The RSS's Vision for the Future

The RSS is clear that future Hindu society cannot be built on jati divisions and social hierarchies. These divisions must be abolished as they cannot be tolerated. While diversities will continue to exist, societal divisions will gradually diminish, perhaps even rapidly, paving the way for a more harmonious and inclusive society.
