A Special Day, Marked Differently
What comes to mind when I think about receiving my degree from Professor H.K Sharma during the graduation ceremony? It was a unique experience, combined with anticipation and nostalgia. I might have watched countless YouTube videos of other graduates to get hyped, imagining the call-out, the procession down the aisle, and that magic moment when my name was announced. But the reality was different. Here, I decided to capture the moment myself, even though there was a professional photographer. It was a bittersweet moment, filled with happiness despite the unconventional circumstances.
Graduations now seem to be treated less ceremoniously. I was naive for being overly excited; apparently, it's trendy to brag about skipping the ceremony. However, the special position we held as the first batch to graduate offline post-Corona added a unique layer of significance. It marked a new era, a transition from virtual learning to tangible success, and it brought a sense of determination and resilience.
Looking Back at My 2011 Graduation
Fast forward to June 2nd, 2011, a chilly evening at a football stadium by our high school. The graduation ceremony was an outdoor event, relatively simple compared to the grandeur of university graduations. However, it was memorable for its authenticity and the sense of community. We lined up alphabetically, walking from our school to the stadium. The faculty made sure we were well-prepared, conducting rehearsals a few hours before the event. I remember being there by 4 pm, which left me a bit overwhelmed by the time my name was called.
It was an unusual experience to share the moment next to one of my good friends, someone who had also been in the Special Ed classes. We were both in separate lines, but it felt like a small victory to get to sit and sing the national anthem with him. I was part of the choir, and the experience was bittersweet. The wind was quite strong, and I had to get my graduation hat back on. I did hear some people cheer as I walked across the stage too, but I left my hat on, symbolizing a personal triumph.
The ceremony included speeches, and there were four valedictorians. I can still recall the camaraderie as we sat together, cheering each other on. But the most memorable part was the beach ball toss. It's a tradition that brings a lighter touch to what could be a solemn occasion. That little gesture meant a lot to me, despite the wind and the chaos.
Legacy and Companionship
Afterwards, I spent time with close friends and family, taking pictures and exchanging messages. It was a moment of triumph, but also a gathering of support. I and my friend went to an all-night party, but we didn't stay for the entire duration. Instead, it was an opportunity to celebrate with our peers, to connect and remember this significant moment.
This journey through time, from 2011 to the present, is a reflection of the many lessons learned, the personal growth, and the celebration of achievement. It serves as a reminder of what graduation truly means: the culmination of years of effort, the spirit of community, and the hope for a promising future.
