The Nephilim Mysteries: Genesis 6 Demystified

After the fall of mankind by eating from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, the Holy Spirit, who is light, could no longer dwell within Adam and Eve. When light touches darkness, it vanquishes it. Genesis 6 introduces us to a new group of beings called the nephilim, who were the result of an intermingling between fallen angels and human women.

The Genesis 6 Episode: An Angelic Intervention

According to Genesis, the angels arrived on Earth to guide and assist humanity. For a time, things seemed to be on track, but the angels became overwhelmed by the human population. They began mating with human women, leading to the birth of the nephilim. These beings were said to be over 30 feet tall, with a physique akin to the creatures close to the time of creation. The nephilim were feared for their intimidating height and were prone to cannibalism when food was scarce.

The Bible goes on to mention Noah as a man who was perfect in his generation. He was the sole survivor of the impending flood, implying that the nephilim and their offspring were, at their core, mankind, albeit with extraordinary traits.

Understanding the Term "Nephilim"

The word 'nephilim' is the plural form of the word 'nephil,' which comes from the root word 'naphal.' According to Strong's Bible Dictionary, 'naphal' has several meanings, but in the context of Genesis 6, it can be interpreted as:

To cause to fall To throw down To knock out To lay prostrate To overthrow To make the lot fall (assign by lot, apportion by lot) To let drop To cause to fail (figuratively, to cause to fall)

The term 'nephil' often translates to 'giant' or 'gigante,' which, in Greek, refers to excellence, skill, and social standing, rather than physical stature. The nephilim were described as tyrannical bullies or 'mighty men of old' who held social standing and were the offspring of the gods or 'ha'elohim.'

Genesis 6: The Original Sin and Social Tyranny

The passage talks about how all men departed from the ways of the Lord as they multiplied. They engaged in corrupt practices, took whatever they wanted, and even took the wives of the men they murdered. Some of the ha'elohim (the mighty ones or those in power) sired these nephilim, who were seen as social and moral outcasts.

See the parallel account in the Book of Jasher, chapter 4:

16 And all the sons of men departed from the ways of the Lord in those days as they multiplied upon the face of the earth with sons and daughters and they taught one another their evil practices and they continued sinning against the Lord.

17 And every man made unto himself a god and they robbed and plundered every man his neighbor...

The nephilim, while being the progeny of both humans and angels, represented a form of social and moral decay that threatened the peace and unity of humanity.
