Jayalalitha: The Enigma and the Rumors

The whole state used to call her amma, which means mother. However, there is no concrete evidence to suggest that she had a child of her own on record.

Some might believe that a prominent public figure like Jayalalitha should have boldly declared her children if she had any, given the nature of her public persona. But in a period when information about such matters was scarce, it’s natural for rumors to circulate for a substantial time before being substantiated or debunked.

The rumor mills have always been in action regarding J Jayalalitha, but her demise has rekindled these speculations. Indians, it seems, are not afraid of spreading rumors, even when the subject is a private matter.

From the comments and news articles, it is evident that public knowledge about so public a person as Jayalalitha remains limited. This inconsistency is baffling to many who seek clarity on even the most basic aspects of her personal life.

Subtler News and Media Frenzy

It is often said that only a mother has the privilege to disclose the father of her child, and not everyone can easily relate to their father through DNA. Hence, the ongoing rumors might be hinting at a more subtle aspect - whether 'Amma' actually delivered the child in private, attended by a midwife.

Media attention would be overwhelming if such a public figure were to admit to the delivery of a child in private. Despite these rumors, Jayalalitha never acknowledged having any children, nor did she ever marry.

False Claims and Media Manipulation

Incorrect information was spread, claiming that Jayalalitha had a child. Even after her death, some individuals were shown as her supposed child, adding to the confusion.

There is a historical context to these rumors: Jayalalitha's brother Jayakumar moved with his wife Vijayalakshmi out of Poes Garden in 1978. They moved to another house called Sandhya Ilayam, which was owned by Sandhya alone. Sandhya had passed away in 1971.

Jayakumar allowed his first daughter Deepa to be raised by Jayalalithaa from 1978 to 1980. Jayalalithaa had fond memories of raising the child. Later, as Jayalalithaa became more involved with her activities in the AIDMK, Deepa moved to her parents' house. This information was later confirmed by actress Sheela in a tribute to Jayalalithaa after her death.

Despite these facts, media and political opposition groups spread false rumors about Deepa being Jayalalithaa's own child, trying to damage her reputation. Jayalalithaa never had a formal relationship or marriage, and consequently, she did not have any children.

A Complicated Family Situation

Despite not officially marrying, Jayalalithaa did have a daughter named Shobana with an ex-Kannada actor Shoban Babu. However, she did not allow her to stay in touch with the family, possibly due to the influence of her alleged friend Sasikala.

In conclusion, the absence of concrete evidence and the stark contrast between public speculation and private facts make it clear that Jayalalithaa never had a child of her own. The rhetoric around her family life adds to the extensive mythology and intrigue surrounding this highly influential political figure.
